Hawaii's response to the tragedies in New York, Pennsylvania & Washington D.C. on September 11, 2001.

What is America to me?
A name, a map, a flag I see
A certain word, democracy
What is America to me?

The house I live in
A plot of earth, a street
The grocer and the butcher
And the people that I meet
The children in the playground
The faces that I see
All races alThe religions
That's America to me

The place I work in
The worker by my side
The little town or city
Where my people live and die
Aloha and the handshake
The air of feeling free
The right to speak my mind out
That's America to me

The things I see around me
The big things and the small
The little corner news stand
And the house a mile tall
The weddings in the churchyard
The laughter and the tears
The dream that's been growing
For so many, many years

The town I live in
The street, the house, the room
The pavement of the city
Or a garden all in bloom

The house that we call freedom

The home of Liberty
And the promise for tomorrow

That's America to me

The folks who guard our freedom

On land and air and sea

And those who built this country

That’s America to me

The word’s of old Abe Lincoln

Of Jefferson and Payne

Of Washington and Jackson

And the tasks that still remain

The volunteers and workers

In New York and D.C.

As the nation comes together

In the name of democracy

The house I live in

The goodness everywhere

A land of wealth and beauty

With enough for all to share

The church the school the clubhouse

The million lights I see

But especially the people

That’s America to me

And crown thy good with brother hood

From sea to shining sea

Small single-story house with white exterior and green lawn.
